Five-element shiatsu is a focused dynamic form of Japanese bodywork based on classical Chinese medicine. Like yoga, Shiatsu encompasses an understanding that the balance of body, mind and spirit are all integral to health. Nothing can be isolated, removed,
or treated with out affecting the whole.
Shiatsu is practiced on a matt on the floor. The client is clothed, and no oil is used. A shiatsu session includes deep passive stretches, and pressure point work. The practitioner uses thumb pressure, as well as elbows, feet, and knees at specific locations, affecting the flow of Qi (the electric/energetic force in the body) along the meridians (paths) traversing the body.
